How We’re Using AI at Tiny — Our Principled Approach

At Tiny, we’ve always believed in one simple idea: Technology should help people — not replace them. AI should help creativity — not create it.

From the conception of Tiny, our mission has never changed. We’re here to help home-based bakers, crafters, artists, and small business owners grow locally, get discovered, and turn what they love into something that can make them money too.

Now, as AI becomes part of almost every tool we use online, we’ve been asking ourselves something important:

How can we use AI thoughtfully — to help our merchants thrive, without losing the heart and human touch that makes Tiny, well, Tiny?

We’ve taken our time thinking this through. We’re excited about what AI can do, but we’re also careful about *how* we use it. Here’s what that means for you.

Using AI with Intention

We don’t see AI as a shortcut or a trend. We see it as a way to make Tiny more helpful, more supportive, and more accessible — especially for the small business owners and home-based creators who are doing it all themselves.

Here are a few ways we’re already using AI to help our merchants:

1. Helping You Get Discovered Locally (SEO That Works for You)

When someone nearby searches for *“custom cookies near me”* or *“local candle shop,”* we want your Tiny Store to be the one they find.

That’s where AI quietly steps in — helping your store show up in the right local searches, automatically tuning your titles, descriptions, and tags for better visibility.

You shouldn’t have to be an SEO expert to get noticed or pay thousands to pop up on Google. You should just do what you love — and we’ll make sure people can find it.

2. Helping You Look Your Best (Product Photography Made Simple)

We know product photos can be tough — the lighting, the cropping, the backgrounds that never look quite right.

AI helps us give every Tiny merchant access to beautiful, consistent, authentic photos — without needing a studio.

You’ll be able to:

  • Brighten, center, and clean up images automatically.
  • Keep your store layout looking polished and cohesive.
  • Make your products look great *without changing who you are or what your brand stands for.*

It’s about enhancement, not replacement — and only if you want it. Your work stays your work — just easier to show off.

3. Helping Us Stay Tiny (So You Can Too)

We’re also using AI to make sure we can stay a small, nimble team while continuing to improve Tiny every day.

By automating small tasks — like AI-supported programming, bug triage, or testing — we can keep our operational costs low.

That means Tiny stays affordable (and free for early merchants), while we still build fast and listen closely to what you need.

4. Building Features and Fixes Faster (Because You Deserve That)

When our merchants send feedback — a new idea, a bug report, or a feature request — AI helps us move faster.

It assists in writing test cases, generating prototypes, and catching errors early, so that we can ship improvements quickly without cutting corners.

We’re going up against giants, and we’re tiny (get it?), but Tiny should — and must — be held to the highest standard of any platform, because our merchants deserve it.

We want to make Tiny better for everyone.

What We’ll Never Use AI For

As excited as we are about what AI can do, we’re equally clear about what we *won’t* do. There are boundaries we hold close — because Tiny exists to celebrate real people making real things.

We will not use AI to:

  • Allow AI-generated goods or mass-produced digital replicas that imitate handmade items.
  • Support stolen art, copied designs, or re-uploaded work that doesn’t belong to the creator.
  • Host AI-generated product listings pretending to be human-made.
  • Inflate reviews, fake local listings, or manipulate discovery results.
  • Use your store data to train AI models that others could benefit from unfairly.
  • Replace the originality, personality, and soul that make your business unique.

We built Tiny to help *makers*, not machines. We believe authenticity, craft, and creativity are what make local commerce special — and we’re committed to protecting that.

If it’s not made by a real person, with real care, it doesn’t belong on Tiny. Period.

Our Promise: People First, Always

AI is just one of many tools we use to keep Tiny simple, affordable, and empowering. But people — our merchants, our shoppers, our small team — will always come first.

Every new AI feature we build goes through the same lens:

> Does this make life better for our merchants? > Does it help them sell more, stress less, or shine brighter?

If the answer’s no, we don’t build it.

We’ll continue to share our progress openly, listen to your feedback, and stay honest about how we use technology behind the scenes. Because at the end of the day, Tiny only works if you trust us — and we never take that lightly.

Tiny helps small businesses feel big — and AI, used thoughtfully, can help us do that even better. One local baker, one jewelry maker, one creator at a time.
